Making My Wardrobe Work

I'm going to confess......... I love to shop!

However there are times I feel like I have no clothes.

I know many ladies feel like this. Sometimes I look at my closet and I just stare at it because I don't know what to wear.

In an effort to save money and give myself a updated look I'm going to be revamping my wardrobe.

Recently I was browsing the Style and Beauty Doctor and I saw a great article on maximizing your wardrobe here.

When I first decided to start blogging I knew that I wanted to talk about hair and style. But I kept thinking to myself, how would I fit in? There are so many other fabulous blogs out there. I didn't want to be seen as " Just another natural hair blog". I wanted to be more than that.

Now I am in no way saying that other blogs are that, in fact I think all of the blogs are unique in their own respect, however from my point of view I was thinking that my blog would be viewed as one out of many blogs geared toward hair, fashion, style and life. You know "just another one" in the eyes of the world.

Today it came to me that my blog wouldn't be just another hair blog it would be my blog. Whatever I wanted to say and what my readers wanted to know, that would be it. It doesn't matter what it is viewed as, because I know what it is.

So this blog is "Not Another Hair Blog" its my blog and its my space.

The Many Uses of Rose Water

Recently a friend of mine introduced me to rose water. Not only does it have an amazing smell it can be used in various ways.

Rosewater can be used as toner, facial cleanser and a hair moisturizer. Rose water can also be added to bath water for a relaxing invigorating experience.

It has also been said that rose water can cure a sore throat and sore gums (wow....who knew??)

Rose water can also be used as a disinfectant and an air freshener.

I plan on reviewing how rosewater works on my hair....

My Trip To Louisiana

I had a great time in Louisiana! Although the weather was horrible I still made the best of it. I wish I would have taken more pics but something is better then nothing. While there I ate a ton and shopped a TON!

I must say that my friend showed me a great time. I will say that Louisiana is unique in many ways including having a drive through restaurant for Daiquiris, you can get alcoholic or non alcoholic ( I wish I was lying).

I also visited a store called Charming Charlies. Can you say in love? The store had wall to wall accessories. So much accessories I was exhausted afterwards.

I was also made aware of the famous Tony Chacheres seasoning. My friend asked me to bring back three bottles. I bought two for myself which resulted in me stuffing seasoning all throughout my suitcase.

I can't wait for my next vacay! Hopefully there will be better weather and I promise more pics.

LocuMentary Vol 2- Bye Bye Buildup

So I mentioned previously that I was having a problem with buildup (buildup)

Today I did a baking soda and ACV rinse and I'm proud to say I loved it.

I didn't really measure exactly. I added the baking soda and the ACV until it formed a pastey consistency. I left the mixture on for about 10 minutes. I loved the results.

To moisturize my hair before retwisting I used this. This stuff is AMAZING!!! Definitely a staple.

I will be doing these cleanses twice a year. I know the reaction between the ACV and the baking soda is not the best, so therefore I don't think it should be done too often, however in order to have clean locs its a necessity....

Going forward I think I'm going to be switching up my regimen a bit.

I plan to re-twist every 2-3 weeks faithfully! My roots marry something terrible if I don't. The damage of not re-twisting could lead to disaster when I finally do.

I've also seen better results this time when retwisting because I did not clip at the roots. As a result my hair dried much better and it was less painful. I can't wait until my hair is long enough so that I don't need to use clips.

I'm also going to make sure not to spritz my hair daily with water. I think that leads to my hair unraveling faster and my hair taking longer to loc in some places. I will oil when necessary and maybe spritz with water twice a week. I think with my re-twisting more frequently this will yield great results. All in all I love my hair.

So many times we as Women (and Men) get bored with our style. It's so easy to be un inspired or just lost when it comes to putting together an outfit. I'm definitely guilty of this. Sometimes I will have a boring week where everything is just so plain. I've found ways to bring life to a otherwise boring outfits. Some of my favorite things are bracelets. I love love love bracelets. I will wear 100 at a time if my arms were long enough. One of my favorite places for bracelets is Aldo! Take a looksie and see what I mean....

I'm guilty of it...yes I am.

I.stare at others who have thick luscious locs. Sometimes I have to catch myself so they don't think I'm psycho.

Today I saw a girl on the train and I admired her hair because it was so free. It wasn't freshly twisted but it just looked so natural. I should have taken a pic. I think I'm going to start taking random pics of locs. (Don't think I'm crazy..LOL).

Although I love to admire others locs I appreciate my own. I admire my own texture and how my hair gets all wavy when I wet it. I admire the thickness. Although its not as thick as I would like its still beautiful and its MINE!

I try not to put to much thought into length I'm more into the health of my hair and scalp. So for those of you struggling...relax...you will get there

Protective Styling Locs

Hair 101

Today I realized that while freeforming for the summer, I cannot just leave my hair out. I have to protective style it. Just because I have locs doesn't mean that protective styles don't apply to it. I started playing around with protective styling. I'm going to wash my hair on Sunday and come up with a style to wear for the week. I have a business meeting on Monday so I have to make sure my hair looks presentable. I plan to do a cleaner version of this style.

I'm determined to have healthy locs.

SEMI FREEFORMING 8 MONTH OLD LOCS

HAIR 101:

I'm keeping retwisting at a minimum this summer. I want my roots to go stronger. However I'm noticing that my locs don't look or feel as moisturized as I would like them to....

I spritz daily with a oil and water mix and I seal with coconut oil. My locs also feel super skinny. Maybe its because of my bantu knot out that I did earlier this week. I don't know but for some reason my hair feels weird. Maybe its just going through the motions. When I find a remedy to this I'll keep you posted!

Natural Hair Transition Kits

It's amazing how the natural hair movement is evolving. This wasn't available five years ago, or even two years ago. I'm so happy that women are embracing their natural selves. Including me. I don't know why I didn't go natural sooner.

Recently on a trip to Maryland I met a lady who had long beautiful luscious locs. They basically touched her lower back. As soon as I saw her I instantly walked up to her and started talking (no shame in my game). She informed me that she had been growing her locs for 16 years. They were so strong and healthy. I didn’t see one that looked thin. I asked her what she did and she told me that she doesn’t twist often and that she takes multi vitamins and fish oil. I was so happy to hear that since I do take multi vitamins and I take fish oil.

I’m always skeptical when people say they took this pill and that pill and BAM!!!!! they wake up like Rapunzel. However, I can vouch 100% that I see the benefits of taking a multi vitamin daily and fish oil daily. I take 4 fish oil pills a day. I take two with breakfast and two with lunch. I’ve noticed that my skin complexion is getting very even and also the roots to my hair feel thicker. I’ve also noticed that my hair stays moisturized longer and I haven’t experienced dryness as I have in the past (stay tuned for my experience with dry locs).

I think everyone should incorporate fish oil into their diets. There are so many benefits other than healthy hair and nails. Fish oil has been proven to reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease and improve circulation.

Monday's are sometimes the worst day of the week for people. its just a reminder of the beginning of the work week. some of us may have to go to that job we don't like, or some of us may have just had a weekend that we don't want to end. however "You must motivate yourself EVERYDAY". Waking up is a blessing in itself. Set a goal for the day. Whether its to go to the gym, or call that friend you haven't spoken to in a while, motivate yourself. Create something to look forward to.

Sometimes I find myself being ungrateful but I realize I have a ton of other things to be grateful about. So if you woke up having a bad day let those emotions go and vow that the rest of the day will be a great day......

this is so random, but I hope to be consistent with this blogging thing. i've had so many blogs before that i haven't been too consistent at. i do have one blog that is consistent but that relates to things other than hair (i'll fill u in on that later). something about the variety of hair intrigues me. i've never realized how beautiful natural hair was until recently and i'm sad to say i wish i would have realized it years ago. i really want this blog to take off. i wanna express myself. i'm not looking to be a guru i just want to make a difference (and some friends along the way). I want my readers to feel empowered. I want to expose my readers to beautiful things other than hair (i.e life, travel, finances) so many things i can think of. I just hope to get the opportunity to get my point across in the most effective way possible. bear with me....i'm gonna get there

slow and steady wins the race right

When i first started my locs i had this nasty bald spot due to a mishap with twists i had in my hair. it was really bad. so i decided i was going to remedy the situation and put some good ol castor oil to the test. 7 months later my hair has grown in so well. since I want to continue the same growth i decided to use the jamaican black castor oil. i've heard so many good things about it. soooooo i will be updating periodically about the results i'm seeing with the castor oil. I'm also going to use the red pimento hair growth oil. i haven't heard anything about this but it looked good so i bought it. we shall see!!

Ever since starting my locs i've become an accessory whore. sorry for the language but basically thats what I've become. Since My locs are 7 months old I feel the need to dress up my look with accessories. my motto is the bolder the better. i think with accessories you have to make it work but without looking like your trying to hard. only once piece needs to be your highlight. for instance I wouldn't put on a big azz necklace and some big azz earings. its one or the other boo, one or the other. just my opinion

In the beginning I had a perm, now I have locs. That is all.

Just kidding.......

Well to sum it up. I love my hair. I have my days when I don't but for the most part I'm loving it.

I hope this blog will show other women of all hair textures to love themselves and embrace what they have.
